The Brazilian Meteorological Society and the World Meteorological Organization in partnership with international organizations bring to Brazil the 3^rd WMO International Symposium on Nowcasting (WSN12).

The two previous symposia were held in Toulouse, France (2005) and Whistler, Canada (2009). WSN12 will be held in Rio de Janeiro City. The Wonder City will host the Olympic Games in 2016 and hopes to benefit with the outcomes of WSN12.

There is a need for nowcasting systems in developing countries given the increasing need of mitigating the impact of high impact weather, flash-floods, landslides, wind gusts, hail, lightning, etc. Unlike previous symposia, WSN12 will be proceeded by a three day tutorial workshop on nowcasting.

WSN12 will be held at the Bolsa de Valores in Rio de Janeiro downtown between 06 and 10 August 2012. It  will be an unique opportunity to bring together world-renowned scientist, leading experts, professionals and students to discuss important and relevant nowcasting issues aimed at mitigating the effects of high impact weather.  

It will allow accessing the recent progress in all aspects of nowcasting and short range forecasting based on remote sensing, surface networks, NWP, tools and systems such as the ones developed for specific sports and business events for instance Beijing 2008 and the Shanghai World EXPO 2010. The main focus of the symposium will be Nowcasting and very short range forecasting science and applications.

The Brazilian people is world-renowned by its happiness and friendship as well as by its warm welcome to all people in the world with its exquisite cousin,  music, beaches and soccer.
